Length: 2.22 inches | Width: 1.53 inches | Weight: 6.7 ounces This shiny, lemon-yellow apatite crystal is still in its matrix from Cerro del Mercado, also known as Iron Mountain, in Durango, Mexico. There are two stunning apatite crystals visible, one larger and one smaller. This specimen has magnetite as its metallic mineralization, with quartz serving as a matrix for both magnetite and apatite. Numerous veins of gemmy, lemon-yellow to greenish fluorapatite crystals cut through the hematite massif at Cerro de Mercado. Although these crystals have been harvested from the region's iron mines for many years, their availability has significantly decreased due to the recent mechanization of the mining processes.
